Willow Gets His Jump Back!.AVI.wmv
Willow has diabetes, diagnosed in October, 2009. He began Lantus insulin in December. He had lost the ability to jump up on furniture due to the neuropathy caused by the damage. Happily, he has regained much of the use of his back legs and has gone from a dose of insulin every 12 hours to every 36 to 48 hours. If YOU have diabetic cat, it is not as difficult to deal with as you might think. With the help of your VET YOU can SAVE your kitty. Feel free to email me if you find yourself with a diabetic cat and need some advice. Please DO NOT feed cats food with GRAIN AND RICE. Avoid DRY FOOD, DRY FOOD will help to CAUSE DIABETES IN CATS

Hi, I didn’t start willow on insulin until after I had changed the diet to only, grain free canned food by Wellness, they make 3 or 4 flavors that are specifically grain free.
…My vet told me prescription food is not necessary and Wellness makes some dry food that is grain free that he gets a small amount of for his teeth.
I bought a blood glucose meter that is specifically for dogs and cats, it cost me 200 dollars and the strips and everything,… I had been keeping a savings account for cat emergency…
The glucose started at 400 and with diet alone it went to the 200′s. I noticed changes in urination and drinking within a couple of weeks. He wasn’t able to jump on the bed until December so I began with insulin, Lantus, at very low dose and by the time of that video he was back to normal.
I have only seen the vet once, at the beginning but I had to learn a TON about feline diabetes and spend about 2500 in the long run but he is back to normal now and diabetes free!.
The most important thing I learned is that cats cannot process carbohydrates the way other mammals can and the dry pet food industry, and Purina, are intentionally causing feline diabetes because the grain produced foods are much cheaper.
The field of research into feline diabetes is very new, my vet told me that in medical school she had hardly any training in feline diabetes.
It is all about making money off of the food. Commercial cat food production is a very new industry.
good luck
Hi Pognyc–I have my cat on PZI but I am going to switch her to lantus. How much did you start Willow on?
Hi, good luck. A very tiny does at first to make sure he didn’t go into hypoglycemic shock, and Kayro syrup to rub on his gums if he did.
I think I started with 1 unit or 1.5 unit with the micro dose needles. He went up little by little to 2.5 units. He has been insulin free since 3/24. I think diet caused it and has helped it. No more dry food basically… Good Luck!
The Lantus I started with was “peakless” “human” insulin and at 12 hour intervals.
