Feeding Willow The Cat who is a recovered Feline Type II Diabetes patient. Cats should NOT eat grain of ANY KIND and need HIGH PROTEIN. Cats are obligate carnivores and cannot process carbohydrates. Cats can become diabetic very easily by eating most dry commercial cat foods containing rice and grain. Some cats are more susceptible than others due to genetic makeup. Symptoms of Feline Type II Diabetes are Frequent urination, strong odor of urine, excessive thirst, excessive hunger of dry food means the cat is STILL HUNGRY and you are STARVING IT by NOT giving it enough PROTEIN! Grains and rice and fillers are UNHEALTHY FOR CATS AND WILL KILL THEM. If your cat is an OUTSIDE CAT and can hunt and eat vermin, then it gets what it craves that way. Otherwise you NEED to be AWARE of the protein, and avoid GRAINS/carbohydrates. Healing a diabetic cat was expensive and a long learning process. I did it myself but had to purchase an animal glucose meter, syringes, insulin and everything but in 5 or 6 months of treatment, Willow began to produce his own insulin again. Now he eats Grain Free only and high Protein. I generally buy Wellness brand.
