Black Jack is a 3-month old short-haired black kitten. He is litterbox trained. Black Jack is co CUTE! He has been fed a premium quality cat food (Wellness Core) since he was three weeks old and his coat is super soft. Black Jack is VERY friendly and will purr the minute you pick him up. He does great with other cats/kittens as well as dogs. Black Jack also does really well with young children and he lets them pick him up and carry him all around the house. I stopped feeding my cat commercial food out of fear for contamination…She eats stuff like she is a baby….a lot of salmon…occasionally I cook stuff just for her like unsalted chicken or steak cut really small…I have even ground stuff in the blender….the thing is she looks better than my other cats that I used to feed premium cat food to….she is in perfect health. No fat, but big and plush. So I don’t feed her catfood. I just wonder if anyone else stopped feeding their cats cat food, and are their cats are doing well with it? I haven’t fed her any cat food in a long time…I am just surprised she does so well.
She gets calcium from eating so much salmon. I give her milk occasionally because she handles it. Last night she ate a small cooked carrot, occasionally an egg…she doesn’t eat any of the junk I eat…ever. btw…when I got her she was at the shelter and going to die from malnutrition…she was nearly starved to death..the vet didn’t think she’d make it. Also, she is long haired and had lost nearly all her hair…now she is lush…I had another cat once who ate not even half of what this cat eats(and I never gave her "human" food) and her belly swayed it hung so low…this cat has no belly but not ribsy…she is very thick like a lion who eats well….that is what got me thinking….lions don’t eat science diet
sometimes they put euthanised shelter animals in pet food as mystery meat…or bone meal…that really freaks me out after the pet food scare because now I can’t trust big names anymore. And I am a bit afraid to touch the stuff.
I would feed the wet vet stuff too, if I could afford it…I fed it for a couple weeks when she was too weak and needing to be fed with a syringe but I couldn’t do it permanantly. I don’t feed her table scraps, though. I cook for her specifically without added stuff. If you can’t tell I like cooking for her…she likes it, too.
